Exercise 1

ایک دفعہ رستم توران کے جنگلوں میں شکار کر رہا تھا۔ اتفاق سے ایک جنگلی گدھا مارا اور اسے بھون کر کھانے کے بعد سو گیا۔ اس کا پیارا گھوڑا رخش جنگل میں چرنے لگا۔ اتفاق سے تاتاریوں کا ایک گروہ ادھر سے گزرا۔ جب انہوں نے رخش کو اکیلے چرتے ہوءے دیکھا توو ہ اسے پکڑ کر اپنے ساتھ لے گءے۔ جب رستم بیدار ہوا اور اس نے اپنے گھوڑے کو غاءب پایا تو وہ رخش کے قدموں کے نشانوں سے سمجھ گیا کہ اصل واقعہ کیا تھا۔ وہ پیدل ہی تاتاریوں کے پیچھے چل پڑا۔ جب اس علاقے کے حاکم نے رستم کی آمد کی خبر سنی تو وہ اپنے درباریوں کےساتھ اس کے استقبال کے لیے شہر سے باہر آ گیا۔

Once Rustam was hunting in the forests of Turan. By chance he killed a wild ass. He roasted it and slept after eating it. His dear horse Rakhash began to graze in the forest. By chance a band of Tartars happened to pass there. When they saw Rakhash grazing alone, they captured it and took it with them. When Rustam woke up and found his horse missing, he understood the real matter by the foot prints of Rakhash. He followed the Tartars on foot. When the ruler of that territory heard the news of Rustam’s arrival, he along with his courtiers came out of the city to receive him.

Exercise 2

جب بابر دہلی میں تھا تو ایک روز اس نے اپنے آپ سے کہا چونکہ میں ایک بادشاہ ہوں اور شاہانہ زندگی بسر کرتا ہوں اس لیے مجھے اپنی رعایا کے متعلق بہت کم علم ہے۔ جب لوگ مجھے ملتے ہیں تو وہ سمجھتے ہیں کہ میں ایک بہت بڑا شہنشاہ ہوں اس لیے وہ مجھ سے خوفزدہ ہو جاتے ہیں۔ میں اپنے ملک کے عام مردوں اور عورتوں کی زندگی کے متعلق بہت کم جانتا ہوں۔ جب میں ان سے بات چیت کرتا ہوں وہ وہ اتنا خوفزدہ ہو جاتے ہیں کہ مجھے اپنی زندگی کے متعلق کچھ نہیں بتاتے۔ آج رات میں ایک معمولی کسان کا بھیس بدل کر شہر کا چکر لگاوں گا اور اپنی آنکھوں سے دیکھوں گا کہ میری رعایا کیسی زندگی بسر کرتی ہے۔ چنانچہ اس رات بابر نے ایک معمولی کسان کا لباس پہنا اور بڑی پگڑی سے اپنا چہرہ چھپا لیا۔ ان کپڑوں میں وہ بالکل ایک معمولی کسان دکھاءی دیتا تھا۔

When Babur was in Delhi, he said to himself “Since I am a king and lead a royal life, I have a little knowledge about my subjects. When people meet me, they think that I am a great king so they are frightened by me. I know little about the life of common men and women of my country. When I talk to them, they are frightened so much that they tell me nothing about their life. Thus Babur wore the dress of an ordinary peasant that night and hid his face with a large turban. He looked exactly an ordinary peasant in these clothes.

Exercise 3

الہ دین اس غار میں سے باہر نہیں آسکتا تھا۔ اس نے اپنے دل میں کہا میں اب کیا کروں؟ میں تو اس غار کے اندر ہی مر جاوں گا۔ اس بدبخت بوڑھے نے مجھے مار ڈالا ہے۔ جب وہ یہ سوچ رہا تھا تو اس نے اپنے ہاتھ ملنے شروع کیے۔ دفعتا ایک جن اس کے سامنے نمودر ہوا۔ اسے دیکھتے ہی الہ دین ڈر کے مارے کانپنے لگا۔ لیکن اس نے ہمت کر کے جن سے پوچھا تم کون ہو اور کہا سے آءے ہو؟ جن نے جواب دیا میں اس انگوٹھی کا غلام ہوں۔ چونکہ تم نے انگوٹھی کو رگڑا ہے اس لیے میں حاضر ہو گیا ہوں۔ کہہیے میں آپ کے لیے کیا کر سکتا ہوںِ؟ الہ دین نے کہا مجھے اس غار سے باہر نکالو۔ جن نے کہا آپ کا حکم ماننا میرا فرض ہے۔ اپنی آنکھیں بند کیجءے۔ الہ دین نھے اپنی آنکھیں بند کر لیں اور جب اس نے دوبارہ کھولیں تو اس نے اپنے آپ کو اپنے گھر کے سامنے پایا۔ وہ بہت خوش ہوا اور دوڑ کر گھر کے اندر چلا گیا۔

Alah Din could not come out of that cave. He said in his mind, “What should I do now?” “I shall die in the cave. That wicked old man has killed me.” When he was thinking this, he began to rub his hands. All of a sudden a giant appeared in front of him. Seeing him Alah Din began to tremble with fear. But he took courage and asked the giant, “Who are you and from where have you come?” The giant answered, “I am a slave to this ring. Since you have rubbed the ring, I have presented myself. Say! What can I do for you.” Alah Din said, “Take me out of this cave.” The giant said, “It is my duty to obey you. Close your eyes.” Alad Din closed his eyes and when he opened his eyes, he found himself in front of his house. He became very happy and rushed into his house.

Exercise 4

وہ اس شہر میں اجنبی ہے۔ تم نے یہاں آنے کی تکلیف کیوں کی؟ میرا اس سے کوءی واسطہ نہیں ہے۔ یہ سیاہی پھیکی ہے۔ مدھم روشنی میں نہ پڑھو۔ ستارے رات کو چمکتے ہیں۔ یہ تو اچھا شگون ہے۔ اس نے بری عادتیں ترک کر دی ہیں۔ اپنے دانت صاف کرو۔ اس نے میرے دس روپے دینے ہیں۔ جس کی لاٹھی اس کی بھینس۔ وہ ایک ہونہار کھلاڑٰی نظر آتا ہے۔ آواز خلق کو نقارہ خدا سمجھو۔ اسے ضمانت پر رہا کر دیا گیا ہے۔ یہ چیک کیش کروا لاو۔ ننگے پاوں مت پھرو۔ اسلم تمہارا کیا لگتا ہے؟ تم نے پرچے کیسے کیے ہیں؟ مہربانی کر کے مجھے معاف فرمایے۔ کبھی بیکار مت بیٹھیں۔ اس نے تمہارا کیا بگاڑا ہے؟ تھوڑا علم خطر ناک ہوتا ہے۔ انت بھلا سو بھلا۔

Topic: Five Countries

Laos:

·        Laos (Lao People’s Democratic Republic) is the only landlocked country in Indochinese peninsula. It is bordered by Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, China and Cambodia.

·        Vientiane is the capital of Laos. Lao is the official language. Kip is its official currency.

·        It got independence from France in 1953 and current Bounnhang Vorachith

·        KPL is its news agency of Operation Star is its secret agency which was active during US-Vietnam War.

·        Laos is also known as country of Million Elephant

Latvia:

·        Latvia is a country in Northern Europe in Baltic Region (The region around Baltic Sea) that shares borders with Estonia, Lithuania, Russia and Belarus. It shares maritime border with Sweden.

·        Euro is its official currency. Riga is its capital. Latvian is the official language.

·        It was the part of Soviet Union till September 1991. Current Prime minister of Latvia is Krisjanis Kranis

·        VDD and MIDD are intelligence agencies of Latvia. LETA is the official news agency. Saeima is the name of Parliament.

Lesotho:

·        Lesotho is an enclave country (A country which is surrounded by another country from all its sides) in South Africa. It has an area of 30000 square km approx. while population almost 2 million.

·        It is the third enclave country in the world after San Marino and Vatican City which are located inside Italy. Formerly Lesotho was known as Basutoland

·        It got independence from UK in 1966 and Letsie III is the current King of Lesotho. Tom Thabane is Prime minister

·        Maseru is the capital of Lesotho. Lesotho Loti and South African Rand are official currencies. Sesotho and English are official languages

Lebanon:

·        Lebanon is a small country in Western Asia bordered by Israel and Syria. It has maritime border with Cyprus.

·        Beirut is the capital of Lebanon. Arabic is its official language. Lebanese pound is its currency

·        Michel Aoun is its President. This country was under occupation of Syria and Israel until 2005. It got independence in 1943/

·        Phoenicians is the old name of Lebanon. GDGS is secret agency of Lebanon

Liberia:

·        Liberia is a country in West Africa bordered by Guinea, Ivory coast and Sierra Leone.

·        Monrovia is the country’s capital. Liberian dollar is the official currency of Liberia. English is the official language

·        Liberia got independence from US in 1847. It was the first African country who got independence and it is the Africa’s first and oldest Republic. George Weah is the current President of Liberia

·        Liberia helped US during world war II. In return, US invested a big amount in Liberia.

·        First President of Liberia was an American. Liberia’s flag resembles with US flag. Formerly Liberia was known as Monrovia

·       NSA is its intelligence agency while LINA is the news agency
